Free To Be…

Free To Be…

You and Me (apologies to Marlo Thomas!) I’ve been taking some time over the last few days to think about this blog, and what I/we want it to achieve, what purpose we want it to serve. It dawned on me that the best, most enjoyable blogs are ones that really give an insight into the person or people behind it. It doesn’t matter wether the blog is personal or for business, the best ones…. reveal something. To be honest, I’m not sure that we’ve been doing that. Well, that’s going to change, because it’s dawned...

How are we doing so far?

How are we doing so far?

No, really…. how are we doing so far? We’ve been open since february, and we’re working hard to get the word out. But we need to know what we’re doing right, and what we’re doing wrong. We figured the most logical people to ask would be you. One of the first questions is the web site. We plan on taking all new product pictures for the store this weekend, and are considering reworking the site – maybe a lighter, cleaner look. What about the site as it is now, though? Is it easy to use, to get around? Legible?...

Our Guilty Pleasures

Our Guilty Pleasures

Here at Slice of Life Tees, sometimes we think that people think of foodies as stuffy or snobby. We’re sure there are some who are – maybe we’d be better off to call them “gourmands”. Slice of Life Tees: Watch It on Wed.

We’ve just decided that every Wednesday we’ll be posting a video. It may apply to foodies, or to t-shirts, or cooking. Or, as is the case with this one, it may not! This is a music video by Jamie Cullum – we think he’s awesome. There’s a simplicity, and a strange joy, about this video that makes it one we could watch over & over.

Foodies, Chefs, T-shirt fans & social media

Foodies, Chefs, T-shirt fans & social media

One of the challenges we’ve faced as we’ve been getting SLICE of LIFE Tees off the ground is getting the word out. The most successful (and least expensive!) method of that currently is social media – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, etc. Facebook was easy – we’ve been using that for years. Twitter has taken some getting used to, and there are still a few small things we’re not entirely sure we’re doing right, but overall, we like it. We’ve got, and never use, a Tumblr account. And LinkedIn?...

Foodies, t-shirts & festivals – lessons learned

Foodies, t-shirts & festivals – lessons learned

This has been our first summer selling SLICE of LIFE Tees at food festivals, and we’ve gotten a lot out of it, in a variety of ways. First and foremost, we’ve started to get our name out there. “Slice of Life” is, we think, a name that (with the slightly troubling overlap with “Dexter”) sort of stands out, so we hope that our name starts to register when people think of t-shirts for foodies. The festivals have been mostly local ones, but you have to start somewhere. We may be crazy optimistic, but we have...
